Candace leads with encouragement, guidance, knowledge, support and humor. With a lifetime of hiking, biking, fitness and water adventures, she knows what you can encounter when outdoors. She shares this knowledge and teaches skills with grace, humor, professionalism and humility. Her unique blend of Red Cross Certifications, Wilderness Safety and Survival Certificates, personal experiences, and working with personal training clients, in addition to teaching Aqua Programs, Circuit Training, Strength Training and Yoga classes, Candace brings a wide lens view, detailed learning and fun into these empowering programs to grasp the essence of both action and stillness in the wilderness.
Candace is a MFC Registered Personal Trainer, holds 7 other fitness certifications and has her Wilderness Training Certificates from ICSOS in Levels 1, 2, 3 of Wilderness Safety and Survival Skills and Land Navigation Level 1. Candace is currently enrolled in the 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training and the Canadian Red Cross Psychological First Aid Certification as learning is a lifetime journey to her.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to get settled and be ready for a prompt 7:00 pm start. Bring your water bottle and dress with attire suitable for the weather conditions. In months where sunset is past 8:45pm, bring your headlamp with you if you have one. If you don’t, I have extras to lend out.

Meet Your Instructor:
Candace Csordas is a highly qualified instructor with extensive expertise in wilderness survival, safety, and navigation. She holds ICSOS Certificates in Levels 1, 2, and 3 of Wilderness Survival and Safety, as well as Level 1 Navigation. With a passion for outdoor exploration, Candace has hiked across Canada and the USA since childhood, starting her adventures at the age of 8 in rural Manitoba.
In addition to her emergency first aid and wilderness survival training and certificates, Candace is a multifaceted fitness professional. She is an MFC Certified Registered Personal Trainer, MFC Certified Group Fitness Instructor, MFC Certified Resistance Training Instructor, MFC Certified Aqua Instructor, MFC Certified Yoga Instructor, MFC Certified Active Older Adult Instructor and Zumba Instructor. Candace believes in continual growth and learning and as such is enrolled in a 200 hour yoga teacher training certification and physiological first aid certificate.

Welcome to our Survival Skills Intensive: A One-Day Wilderness Survival Skills Workshop, where you'll delve into the heart of outdoors and practice wilderness survival skills with my specialized wilderness hiking tool kits. Wilderness Navigation
Understand the importance of maps and how to use them in the fundamentals of navigation. Having basic essential map skills is crucial for any wilderness adventure. Refine your ability to navigate with confidence.
Seasonal Foraging Techniques
Gain valuable insights into foraging techniques applicable in all seasons. We'll take a hike on the trail and look at what resources are there to food. We'll discuss learning how to identify edible plants, fungi, and other resources, enhancing your self-sufficiency for sustenance in the wilderness. Develop a deeper connection to what the environment has to offer.
Essentials of All-Season Fire Making-
Acquire the indispensable skill of fire making, tailored for any season or weather condition. From basic fire-building techniques to advanced methods, you'll gain the confidence and knowledge needed to kindle a fire efficiently, ensuring you can meet at least four out of the six wilderness survival pattern elements.
Water Purification Techniques
Practice effective water purification methods, a fundamental skill for any wilderness explorer. Learn to identity the source, and methods for certain environments, then this will be put into practice by purifying water. Enhance your understanding and tactical know how of water treatment, ensuring you stay hydrated and healthy during your wilderness adventures.
Art of Shelter Building
Partake in the art of building a shelter, learn master tarp techniques to create a safe and comfortable refuge in the wild. Whether you're facing unexpected weather conditions or planning an overnight stay, develop the skills to construct a shelter that provides protection and security and ensures you are able to "weather the storm". By practicing, understand the energy and time it takes in constructing a outdoor shelter.
Effective Signaling Techniques
Learn the essentials of effective signaling, a critical skill for communication in the wilderness. Various methods will be practiced in both passive and active signaling.
This program is tailored for those who have completed the Candace Csordas Wilderness Hike and Skills Program or with prior hiking experience. This one workshop instills confidence in know how to face the unknown. Arm yourself with the practical skills to embark on wilderness adventures, whether in the immediate vicinity or across the vast landscapes of Manitoba, Canada or beyond.
Meet Your Instructor: Candace Csordas is a highly qualified Instructor, holding ICSOS Certifications in Levels 1, 2, 3 of Wilderness Survival and Safety and Level 1 Navigation. Candace has hiked across Canada and the USA. She started hiking at the young age 8 in rural Manitoba. In addition, Candace also adventures on the water with her paddleboard going great distances (20km) on the lakes of our beautiful country. In her early years Candace was a swimmer and diver with the Pan Am club and an avid bike rider of any trail she find. Although the diving has diminished, swimming and bike riding continue to be an active passion in her life. Candace is also a MFC Certified Registered Personal Trainer, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, Certified Resistance Training Instructor, Certified Aqua Instructor, Certified Active Older Adult Instructor and Certified Yoga Instructor. Candace also holds Yoga Certification from East to West Yoga. Certified Zumba Instructor. Certified Strong Nation Instructor. Candace is currently enrolled in the 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher Training because learning is a lifetime journey!

Walk and Get Strong Spring 2024

Step into wellness outdoors with the Walk and Get Strong program designed to get you moving and feeling fantastic from the inside out!
Join for a delightful blend of activity, fresh air, and camaraderie amidst the stunning scenery of St. Vital Park. Embark on a leisurely yet energizing hike, perfect for beginners and those seeking a moderate pace. As you traverse the park's picturesque trails, your lungs, heart, muscles, and joints will thank you for the aerobic workout and strength-building experience. Our scenic 30-minute walk including a pit stop at the park's amenities.
Returning to our starting point from the walk, we will focus on strengthening your upper body and core, accompanied by rejuvenating stretches for your entire body. With the assistance of resistance bands (provided) and your own body weight, you'll engage in exercises aimed at enhancing your overall fitness.
No need to worry about mats – we'll perform our stretches standing up and utilizing benches for support. Soak in the sunshine and gentle breezes as you revel in a workout that leaves you feeling revitalized from head to toe!
Remember to bring your water bottle and dress appropriately for the weather. We'll gather in the parking lot of the toboggan slides between 9:45 - 9:55 a.m., ready to set off on our adventure promptly at 10:00 a.m. In case of inclement weather, rest assured that your safety is our priority, and the class will be rescheduled for June 25, 2023.
