Being outside boosts your immune system and your mood and sometimes vistas take your breath away and warm your heart. Energize and exercise within a supportive community, connecting to nature while taking care of your health.
Candace Csordas' fitness certifications are with the Manitoba Fitness Council as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor, Resistance (Strength) Training Instructor, Aqua Instructor, Active Older Adult Instructor and Yoga Instructor. Also a Certified Zumba and Strong Nation Instructor.
Candace is Certified in Wilderness Safety and Survival Levels 1, 2, 3 and Land Navigation Level 1 with ICSOS (International Canadian School of Survival - Survival by Training).
Candace has over 20+ years of fitness instructor experience and a lifetime of experiences bike riding, hiking, swimming, yoga practice, paddle boarding, canoeing, water skiing, skating, snowshoeing, mountain hiking, dancing, baseball and roller blading.

This program aims to get you active and build strength within a social atmosphere in the beauty of the outdoors. Each week we will walk a moderate pace 2.8 km trail through the park (which includes a pit stop at the bathrooms), then strength training exercises using resistance bands (provided) and body weight to build muscle and end with stretches.
Bring your own mat and water bottle. Dress for weather conditions. We will meet in the parking lot of the toboggan slides between 9:00am - 9:10am and start hike at 9:15am. If it is raining, we will walk two loops instead of one. In increment weather, class will be cancelled and rain date will be Oct. 24, 2023. Get some exercise, have some social activity, enjoy the outdoors and have some fun!

Come on out a learn about what you need to know for wilderness safety when on trails, water, or travelling and enjoy a social community hike for some exercise too!
Each week different wilderness preparedness skills will be discussed followed by a 30 - 40 minute hike on the trails through the park. This program really enlightens you with what to have in your hiking tool kit, why you need it, and the different uses of items as they pertain to wilderness safety and survival.
You will receive a folder on the first night and each week handouts will be given with reference to the material covered. You will learn about backpack essentials, trail food, water, shelter, clothing, fire, and signaling. The hike will be a moderate pace of approximately 3km. Ideal for beginners, conversations and photos.
We will meet at the parking lot closet to the playground between 6:45pm and 6:55pm. Click on google map link below. Starting at 7pm we begin at outdoor shelter for the wilderness skill lessons. At about 7:40pm, we will hike a route that takes us through various areas of St. Vital Park. Headlamp recommended. Dress for weather conditions. This program really enlightens you with what to have in your hiking tool kit, why you need it, and the different uses of items as they pertain to wilderness safety and survival when out on trails, water or travelling. You will learn survival safety pattern; what the backpack essentials are; first aid essentials; trail food (including tasting) food storage and foraging food; water purification; various shelters; seasonal clothing; fire methods; and some navigation. There will be active participation by all for water, shelter, and fire modules. You will receive a folder with references to the material covered. Great for hiking or paddling beginners to intermediates!
Be confident when travelling on new trails or in unfamiliar areas, how to handle being lost, what to do if someone becomes injured, or coming across wildlife. Manitoba and Canada have so many places to explore! Let yourself be immersed in nature with the knowledge of wilderness safety and survival!
